Village Hall Restoration

Proposed

Beautify and restore Centre Island Village Hall so that it serves as a dignified civic venue worthy of the village. The current condition of the building does not reflect the character or stature of the community it represents. A properly maintained village hall signals civic seriousness and respect for residents.

Scope and budget to be developed. Community input will be solicited before work is committed.

Water Main Extension & Fire Hydrant Coverage

Proposed

Extend the water main from the Bayville connection point at the tip of the island to bring fire hydrant coverage to Centre Island — a life safety necessity the village currently lacks. The extension will also give residents the option (not the obligation) to tap into the Bayville municipal water supply. Critically, it resolves the long-running Bayville Fire Company litigation by enabling the fire protection infrastructure the Fire Company has required.

Project is linked to resolution of the Bayville Fire Company dispute and municipal insurance costs. Resident polling and comprehensive cost estimates are planned before formal commitment.

Underground Electrical

Proposed

Concurrent with the water main trenching, explore undergrounding the electrical distribution lines along the same corridor. Overhead lines are a persistent source of outages — a life safety issue given residents' dependence on electricity for heat and water systems. Undergrounding eliminates storm-related outage risk and improves long-term reliability. Cost and resident support will be assessed through a comprehensive feasibility study and polling before any commitment.

Scoping contingent on water main trenching plan. Will be evaluated as part of the same infrastructure corridor to maximize cost efficiency.

Pedestrian Walkway

Proposed

While trenching for the water main and electrical work, utilize the road shoulder to establish a dedicated pedestrian path along the main road. Currently, residents walking along Centre Island Road share the travel lane with vehicles — an unsafe condition. A properly graded shoulder path would allow residents to walk safely without competing with traffic.

To be designed as part of the integrated infrastructure corridor project. Exact routing to be confirmed during engineering phase.

Great Meadow Creek Conservation

View document →Proposed

A comprehensive conservation and restoration plan for Great Meadow Creek — addressing decades of environmental neglect, improper disturbance, and inadequate stewardship of one of Centre Island's most ecologically significant natural assets. The proposal covers habitat restoration, stormwater management, and long-term preservation commitments.

Full conservation proposal document available. See the Record section of this site for background on Great Meadow Creek disturbance history.
